At the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, an exhibit gallery filled with maps, displays, anatomical charts and live butterfly specimens is only the gateway to the center's main attraction. This is the large, covered garden area where hundreds of butterflies representing more than 50 species flit through the air, swirling around visitors and even, occasionally, alighting on items of clothing or skin. The center is on the southwestern side of the island, about half a mile from the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum.
